What is a family residence permit?
The family residence permit is the permit that allows a person who is a Turkish citizen or holds a valid Turkish residence permit (the 'sponsor') to live in Türkiye together with specific family members as their sponsor. To preserve family unity it can typically be issued for up to 3 years at a time.
Who can act as a 'sponsor'?
To sponsor your family you must hold one of the following statuses:
Turkish citizens
Citizens of the Republic of Türkiye can sponsor directly.
Blue Card holders
People holding a Blue Card, issued to those who acquired Turkish citizenship by birth and later lost it, and to their relatives.
Foreign residence permit holders
Foreigners who have lived in Türkiye for at least 1 year on a valid residence permit.
Refugees and subsidiary protection
Foreigners granted refugee or subsidiary protection status.
Who is covered by a family residence permit?
The sponsor may apply only for the following relatives:
Foreign spouse
In case of polygamy a family residence permit is issued to only one spouse.
Foreign child
Their own child or their spouse's child under 18.
Dependent child
A foreign child who, even if over 18, is dependent due to needing care.
Application requirements
Authorities require the sponsor to have the means to support the family:
- Total income at or above the minimum wage
- Accommodation that meets general health and safety standards
- Valid foreign health insurance covering all family members
- Sponsor with no criminal record involving offences against family order
